In Memory of Colin McGinty everton in the community mascot

On Friday March 6, 2020 we partnered with Everton in the Community and Merseyside Police on outreach work in local schools.

School children from Y6 to Y10 from schools across Merseyside were asked to create a potential mascot costume for the In Memory of Colin McGinty team to run in at this year’s London Marathon.

A total of 13 teams were finalists in the competition and invited to Goodison Park to explain their designs and inspiration for their creations.

It was a very hard task listening to these amazing children explain how they’d come up with all of their designs. It was almost impossible to pick a winner!

Here’s a video we put together of the event:

Everton legend Ian Snodin and Pete from Jellyhead Studios were also judges and helped our team to pick a winner.

In the end we chose Darcy, Havin and Tahsina from Broadgreen Primary School’s design which incorporated the In Memory of Colin McGinty heart into the design. We also loved James from Litherland High School and his Percy Peace design so decided to incorporate his wings into the overall winning design. The feathers on the wings represent all those lost to knife crime.

The event was covered by the local media and featured on Radio City, Capital FM and BBC Radio Merseyside. We were also very honoured to be joined by Andy Bonner from ITV Granada Reports who covered the event and also came with us to Colin’s grave to talk about his story and our continued work on his legacy.

Can you help us with our #kNOwknifecrime message?
